This conceptual piece strongly communicates the feeling of isolation this person feels. I see this as a retreat into the self to find comfort and shelter. This person feels excluded because they are different the individual has created a 'safe space' to climb into. A place of comfort and security that she climbs down the ladder to sit in a comfortable chair. I see depression too - as that this retreat into the mind as a safe haven the mood is dark for room is sparse and has dark colors. A powerful artpiece.

Thank you very much Kellice. I value your kind comment and appreciate your L/F votes. It is odd that most do not realise, or acknowledge, that we are all Human Beings First - and that the rest, like race, religions etc. should not matter at all.

The topics of Otherness and Outsideness are as relevant today as they were thousands of years ago, and we regularly address them on Mutamea. The dark, anguished yet surreal mood of this painting reminds me of De Chirico and his Metaphysical Art. The subject's face is obscured, as if her identity were taken from her. But she could be anyone - you or me!

Hartmut Jager replied:

Thank you very much Sora for your pertinent comments. Alas, as the daily news shows, not accepting those who are different is still rampant in our continuing and calcified 'Us and Them' mindset.
