According to Legend, Lucifer was the most beautiful of all the Archangels. However, he caught himself in the net of his own conceited, seditious and mutinous character and lost his freedom, as symbolised by the butterfly, when he rebelled against the Creator of Existence...
I wanted to show how he distorted himself into a twisted, gnarled, reptilian like being and yet let his previous beauty still shine through...

I often wonder if Lucifer became more "monstrous looking", because of that's how he saw himself, after his fall from grace? As you said - he was always the most beautiful angel and the brightest morning star. After all - doesn't the withdrawal of love, make us all feel less beautiful and unworthy?
Hartmut Jager replied:
π· Thank You ISSIE for your astute comments. Indeed, the withdrawal of Love can have a crippling effect ! -
Laurel Adams

Stunning entry for Trash or Treasure contest......love,am so impressed with the 'after'/here......f.v..VIVA (I didn't know much about Lucifer 'before',but recently, have met him face to face,in all his distortions... i WILL never be the same!).
Hartmut Jager replied:
πΌ VIVA πΌ Thank you for your 'stunning' compliment. Indeed, you, everyone, will never be the same - since we change all the time - with or without a Lucifer manifestation. And, if one considers the unimaginable Vastness of our Universe - our mostly self-created mighty Gods and Demons would hardly bother with a mere speck of dust (planet Earth) in the immensity of our Cosmos ! π
Laurel Adams
Really interesting entries, Hartmut! Love the historical narrative and how you wrestled with finishing the painting while mindful of the spiritual nature of Paradox. Well thought and well rendered!
Hartmut Jager replied:
πΌ LAURELπΌ Thank you for your astute comments. Indeed there is always a paradox, or a battle, going on between the positive and the negative forces - to keep all of Existence in Balance! π

Jane Small
OK Hartmut, I'm now going to visit a work of yours that I admit I was not initially attracted to but now I'm here I have to admit that it's brilliant of course!!!! Not only brilliant but SO powerful! Even the most evil imaginable souls, they say, have some kind of saving grace albeit distorted. Here this trapped Lucifer seems to resonate somehow however fleetingly with the freedom and beauty of the butterfly and I just love how the butterfly seems perched on his hand and the interaction you have so marvelously depicted. This really is groundbreaking art. L/F
Hartmut Jager replied:
Ah Jane - you write as beautifully as you paint ! Thank You for your kind compliments, your most astute words, your valuable 'Favorite' and generous L/F votes. Evil, of itself, is a most puzzling thing, considering that ALL is WITHIN of what most call God, others the Self-Aware Creator Energy of Existence. - Indeed, as you say, there is an almost infinite saving grace to preserve even the most twisted of evil souls. However, so they say - there is a point of no-return where a soul can destroy, burn itself out into dark oblivion, when no healing light can penetrate that self-created darkness anymore...
Hartmut Jager
