Artist's Description
Brigitte Bardot was a famous sexy French Movie Star and Singer in the late 1950s and early 1970s. - She had acted in 47 films, performed in several musicals and recorded more than 60 songs. - For her role in 'Viva Maria" she was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress. -
The film 'The Truth' (1960) was Bardot's biggest commercial success and was nominated for a Best Foreign Film Oscar ! -
Bardot was also awarded a David di Donatello Award for Best Foreign actress for her role in the film. -
She retired from the entertainment industry in 1973 and became a fervent animal rights activist.
In France she was awarded the Legion of Honour in 1985 - but she refused to accept it because she felt the French Government had neglected and failed to protect animals. -
In 1986 she established the Brigitte Bardot Foundation for the Welfare and Protection of Animals. - She is and has remained a major popular European culture Icon. - (H.J. 2021)
