The Legend of Dracula the Vampire is based on a real life leader known as Vlad the Impaler, also called Count Dracul - a ruler of Wallachia (a Region of Romania) . -
In 1462 the Ottoman Turks marched across Wallachia to conquer it - only to find a land poisoned and bare in response to their invasion, and when they reached the capital of Tรฎrgoviste they were confronted with a forest, one kilometre by three kilometres wide, of brutally impaled corpses of the Turkish and Bulgarian prisoners Vlad had taken. The Turks gave up in horror and returned back home. -

The best Vampire movie (in my opinion) is Werner Herzog's "Nosferatu the Vampyre" with Klaus Kinski as the tragic vampire. -
